priscilladress.jpgQ. I will be wearing this dress as the Maid of Honor in my cousin's Labor Day Weekend wedding. I will be wearing a pewter colored strappy high heeled sandal as well. I wanted to bring some color into the outfit with my jewelry. I figured a pair of ginormous costume earrings and bracelet would do. What color do you recommend?

A. Since your dress and shoes are both pewter, adding color to your look through jewelry is perfect. Focusing on your earrings and a bracelet and leaving your neck bare is a great look. Jewel tones like sapphire, amethyst, emerald and ruby would look gorgeous, as would icy colors like lavender and cool pinks. Keep the metals in the silver/pewter family instead of gold. Below are some pretty options for you:

Q. Help! I've been searching for earrings to wear to my wedding next month and I haven't been able to find the right fit. It's an outdoor, garden-style wedding and I'm wearing a narrow strapless ivory lace dress. I plan on having my hair up in a loose, romantic updo. Do you have any suggestions? I love these, but haven't been able to find something similar.

A. We love an elegant dangling earring with a romantic updo and Taylor Swift's waterfall chandelier earrings below are a perfect choice. We found several earrings with a similar feel in a range of prices:

Q. Is there anywhere that I can buy bangle bracelets for smaller sized wrists? I love bangles, especially for the summer, but they always seem too clunky for me and can very easily fall off my wrists. Thanks!

A. Since bangles are designed to slip over your hand, this can leave them sliding up and down your wrists. Your problem is not uncommon, but don't stress over it - you may just have to try on a few more options until you find a bangle that works. Look for adjustable bangles, or try cuff bracelets instead (which are adjustable) and visit some of your favorite teen stores - they usually feature great trendy options that are likely cut a bit smaller. Here are some adjustable options for you:

Q. I have a ring dilemma. I wear a family heirloom diamond engagement ring on my right hand ring finger so it isn't assumed to be an engagement ring. I always wear it, but have some cute "fashion" rings - obviously not engagement or wedding rings - that I would like to wear at the same time. Is there any reason why I can't wear them on the left hand ring finger? Thanks for your advice.

A. Nope, there's no reason at all that you can't wear your fun rings on your left hand ring finger. If that's where they fit best, then that's where you should wear them. Just for fun, here are some of our favorite cocktail rings for spring:

Q. My mother in law would like to give me some pearls for my first Mother's Day (lucky me!), but I need help finding some that don't look so matronly. Any advice?

Q. I have an 18" string of pearls that I received for my wedding. I used to wear them to dressier events and functions, but my style has changed and evolved over the years. I am mostly in casual, daytime situations with children and other moms and work part time from home in a creative profession. I would love to wear my pearls again, but no longer just for special occasions. How can I make them more of an everyday, hip accessory?

A. When we think of pearls, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Coco Chanel and Jackie O usually come to mind, as all are icons when it comes to wearing pearls. While classic and often traditional, pearls are also a mainstay of a modern wardrobe - it's all about how you wear them.

In the images below, Michelle Obama wears her short double strands in classic, ladylike fashion with a pencil skirt and beaded cardigan; Rihanna makes hers look young and fresh with a button down and short flirty skirt; Jessica Biel opts for slightly longer strands to accessorize her little black dress.

The celebrities below opt for longer, layered strands: Ashlee Simpson's have a rock-and-roll vibe worn with skinny jeans and a casual striped top; Sarah Jessica Parker wears hers with a chic black minidress; Blake Lively wears hers long, loose and messy with her retro-inspired look.

The point is, pearls can be worn in so many ways, from casual to dressy, or ladylike to rocker, depending on your style. They are a must-have for any woman's wardrobe.

If you're going to invest in a pearl necklace, a long strand of pearls is the most versatile. You can create multiple looks from the same necklace: wear it long and loose, layered with other necklaces, or you can double or triple the strand to create a shorter necklace. You can even wrap it several times around your wrist or pin a brooch on your necklace.

Here are some pearls in longer lengths for every budget (as you can see, you don't have to spend a lot!):

Q. My wife has a gold charm bracelet, but no charms. I would like to buy her some charms for her birthday but have no idea where to begin. Any suggestions?

shoecharm.pngA. What a lovely and special gift idea. Charm bracelets are a great way to create a customized ever-evolving piece of jewelry, a sort of wearable personal scrapbook. When searching for charms, it's best to choose designs that have meaning to the wearer. Juicy Couture offers a huge selection of affordable charms (like the shoe charm shown here, $48). We found these as well as offerings from Links of London and Jay Strongwater at saks.com. If you'd like to go the luxe route, Tiffany&Co. offers a large variety of charms.

Vintage charms are another option, and a great way to create a one-of-a-kind instant heirloom. You can hunt through antique stores or comb through ebay, but I'm guessing you don't have the time or desire to uncover a vintage treasure. Instead, head to mandbvintage.com or charmco.com for a great selection of vintage charms. You can even send M&B a wish list and they'll help you create a custom piece or hand-engrave a vintage charm.

Q. Layered necklaces are so hot right now....I've seen both Lauren Conrad & Heidi Klum sporting them lately. I'm dying to replicate this look in gold but not sure where to start. Can you offer some suggestions?

A. Layered necklaces can look chic and studied or effortlessly "thrown together" depending on which look you are going for. There are no strict rules as this is all about personal style and having fun. It's also a great way to give new life to some pieces you may already own. Here are some guidelines:

1. If you prefer a neat look, try layering delicate necklaces of varying lengths. The chains should be the same metal (gold with gold) and approximately the same thickness (delicate with delicate; thicker chains with thicker chains). This is, perhaps, the easiest way to layer necklaces.

2. For a more bohemian-inspired look, try layering beaded necklaces of varying lengths and materials together.

3. Try layering a simple chain or beaded strand with a longer pendant style necklace for a look that is easy to accomplish.

Get inspiration from these layered necklaces below, or better yet, buy one that's already layered if you don't trust your own layering skills!

_5622850.jpgQ. I am attending a Black Tie Wedding this weekend. I purchased a black halter style gown. My question is ...Do I wear a necklace? What type of jewelry would go with the dress?

A. Generally, you should not wear a necklace with a halter style dress. Instead, go for dramatic earrings and a cuff bracelet or cocktail ring.

Breakfast at TiffanysQ. For my 40th birthday, I plan to do the Holly Golightly, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" look. I have the perfect black dress, the tiara and gloves, but am struggling to find something similar to the triple strand pearls with the brooch in the middle that she had. I'm wondering what ideas you might have to recreate her stylish look. I would prefer the jewelry to be fake so it doesn't cost a fortune.
-Look-a-like

A. An homage to Audrey, much fun. I searched the net for affordable options to imitate the necklace and, while they are not an exact match, they should do the trick. They range in price from $49-169. Just add your own brooch for full effect.

Q. Can you advise me what kind of earrings I should get to go with my halter style wedding dress? I will probably have my hair up somehow, but nothing too formal. I'm not wearing a veil and was thinking about a small hair accessory instead. I decided not to wear a necklace, but I am clueless as to whether I should go with a stud or small drop or some mid-sized chandelier earring. What kind of earring shape should I be looking for with a dress like this? I'm not very tall (5'2") and my wedding is being held at the Forever Grand Chapel at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in July with a guest list of about 50 people.
-Not so Traditional Bride

A. Petite gals need to stay away from oversized jewelry.  Since you’re skipping all the other traditional accoutrements you do, however, need a little more shine on the ear. Skip the studs and choose something with a little drop from the lobes.
