In case you haven’t noticed, vintage-inspired satchels are having a serious moment this season. Reminiscent of classic menswear totes and briefcases, these iconic vintage silhouettes suddenly seem so fresh and modern and pair easily with a variety of looks. Fossil has designed a collection of perfect heritage bags with its Vintage Revival collection. Crafted from hand-burnished heirloom leather, the collection pays homage to timeless design with impeccable detailing that only improves with age.

Each of the Fossil Vintage Revival Handbags are made with rich leather that has a stunning variegated finish that is burnished, stitched and finished by hand. The luxury high quality leather is virtually unseen elsewhere at this price point (bags range from $128 to $298). Fossil has updated the collection for fall with exotic crocodile-embossed leather, giraffe-printed hair calf and rich colors like butterscotch, rust, pecan and spruce green.

Vintage-inspired satchels are not only timeless and very much on-trend right now, they’re also versatile, easily moving from work to weekend to after hours. We’ve put together a daytime and nighttime look below to show just how adaptable the style is.

Q. I loved your spring list of hot colors, can you tell me what colors are big for fall?

A. Though I’m a firm believer in wearing whatever colors you prefer and any that look good on you regardless of trends, there’s no denying that there are several standout colors and color combination this season. Typically for fall, rich autumnal and jewel tones are hot, and this season is no exception. Two of the standouts are oxblood (a deep burgundy) and hunter green, but jade and sapphire blue are also trending.

A surprising color for fall is white (or winter white, if you prefer to call it that), a “color” that will continue to be big for spring 2013. Black combinations are also big: black & blue, black & gold, and black & white.

Q. I keep hearing that pastel colors are a trend for spring, does that mean I can’t wear all the bright colors and neon shades from last year?

A. Yes, delicate pastel hues are going to be big for spring 2012 in a way that they haven’t for several years. Look for soft sherbet colors like mint green and pale pink to add a sweet touch to your wardrobe. The good news is, bright colors, and yes, even fluorescents, will continue to be hot through 2012. In other words, when it comes to color, anything goes.

From the soft pastel hues seen at Chanel, Phillip Lim and Marc Jacobs to the
bold bright color at Nanette Lepore and Jason Wu, expect spring to bring the full color wheel for 2012.
