Trendspotting: The Stars Rock Head-to-Toe Color

Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Hilary Swank and Angelina Jolie were all spotted recently rocking solid color ensembles. Is it because it's slimming? Or ultra-easy to put together in the morning? Did their stylists take the day off? What gives??

Wearing only one color may seem pretty simple, but it's actually more complex than, say, slipping on a cocktail dress and calling it a day.

The trick to pulling this kind of look off is to mix and match materials...not color. Black is an obvious choice because there aren't really a lot of different shades of black like there are with colors like green or blue. The key to wearing all black without looking like you're on your way to a funeral is to add some sheen to the look. Jennifer added rich leather leggings and a patent belt and Hilary's blazer lapels are satin. This look could also work with a dark eggplant purple or navy blue. And take a tip from Angelina (the only one brave enough to wear all-white) and wear one accessory in a different tone like your shoes or bag. Also, don't try to find matching jewelry, just stick to either all silver or all gold.
