The Big Chill - Sweater Coats for Fall

sweatercoat
Sweater coats paired with boots make a great go-to casual outfit for cooler weather. Find a fitted sweater with a shape that complements your body. The perfect cover-up to wear alone with tights and boots or with a short skirt. It is the ideal piece for layering and can be dressed up or down for the occasion at hand.

Short sleeves on any sweater add to the versatility and up the style factor instantly. That's why we love the Stella McCartney Bubble hem cardi-coat ($780 at Net-a-Porter, upper left).  Check out the flattering shape and high collar. It will be fab with a wide black patent belt to cinch at the waist. Wear a black cashmere turtleneck under this sweater along with black tights and black ankle boots for a streamlined style. Vince's Grosgrain Belted Sweater ($345 at Tobi.com, upper right) is an updated version of the basic black cardigan. The ribbon tie belt, 3/4 sleeves and pleats at the neck add unique details that give this sweater added cold-weather style. I can see this sweater an essential part of my work wardrobe, perfect for layering with dresses and pants. The Gumshoe Sweater coat ($168.00 at anthropologie.com) is the most whimsical of our picks for sweater coats with the ruffled placket, collar and cuffs. The boiled wool fabric is weighty enough to keep out the chill, but is not as heavy as a wool coat. The ideal feminine coat for mild weather as we transition into autumn.

When pairing boots with a sweater dress try to match the tights to the color of your boot for a streamlined effect. Wear opaque tights such as Spanx to keep you looking trim. Tall knee-high boots such as these Pour La Victoire "Hanna" Boot ($499.95 at amazon.com) will complement the shorter length of these sweater coats. Or opt for an ankle boot like the Tory Burch "Barrick" Signature Ankle Boots ($375.00 at Bloomingdales.com). The Tory Burch ankle boot would pair nicely with leggings, tights or skinny jeans when worn with a sweater coat. Save on tights at Bare Necessities with coupon codes from TheFind.com's coupon site.

Stand Tall with Military Inspired Coats for Fall

military-coats

Military coats are lined up at attention, as one of fall's hottest must haves. As soon as the weather cools down you'll be coveting a warm coat accented with brass buttons, trim at the waist and perhaps a couple of epaulets at the shoulders. The military style coat is perfect for daytime as it goes as well with office wardrobes as it does with jeans or leggings for weekend jaunts about town.

Some of our picks include the Bird by Juicy Couture wool-blend military pea coat ($700 at Net-a-Porter) with its ribbed inner wool sleeve trim, brass buttoned epaulets and adorable button detailing along the half-sleeves. It will surely be a classic for many seasons. The Marc By Marc Jacobs cotton moleskin coat ($528 at Bloomingdales.com) is soft and at the same time heavy enough to keep you warm during the chilliest of days. I have a Marc Jacobs full-length cotton moleskin military coat from a few seasons back and I must say it has got to be one of the warmest I own. The fabulous thing about military coats is that most of them have high buttoned up collars for keeping out the wind's chill. The Sonia by Sonia Rykiel double-breasted military coat sports a dose of colorful whimsy with a purple lining ($755 at Net-a-Porter). This particular coat is guaranteed to bring on a cheery mood each time you wear it. For the British take on a military coat, Vivienne Westwood does it with true dramatic style. The waist-coat styled Anglomania military coat in gray ($385.00 at Revolve.com) looks like it jumped straight out of a 16th century novel. I love the over-sized collar, large pocket flaps and striped ribbon detail trim. From Miss Sixty we spotted a military-style wool coat priced reasonably for $99.99 at Overstock.com. With the double-breasted front, epaulets and high collar it will pair perfectly with jeans and boots at an extremely reasonable price.

Speaking of boots I found a couple of military-inspired boots with strap detailing to pair with a military coat. Wear tall knee-high boots with shorter length military coats. The Dana knee high leather boots, in style "Dahlia", $230.00 at Bebe.com in (gray or black) would look great with any of the coats featured here. Tuck leggings or skinny jeans into the knee-high boots for a long streamlined look. The shorter boot such as these fierce Marc Jacobs suede boots (Marc Jacobs tassel-detail suede boots, $1,045 at Net-a-Porter) can work with both short and long military style coats as well. Have fun and forward march with this trend for fall!

Juicy Couture Silk and Jersey Jumpsuit

Juicy Couture Silk and Jersey Jumpsuit
Modern jumpsuits are nothing like their questionable predecessors. This sleek, chic version is the best example we've seen: The soft, strapless silk top and fitted knit pants, which look like two separate pieces, are a monochromatic pairing that beg to be shown off on a sultry summer evening. And because it's so unfussy and easy, it can be accessorized in multiple ways - another great excuse to nab it now and dress it up (or down) to your heart's content.
