Winner Of Yaz Carrying Case Design Contest Announced

In May, we announced the YAZ: Step Up and Go Beyond Contest aimed at creating a contemporary and fashionable new carrying case for YAZ® oral contraceptive. Hosted by Project Runway judge and fashion guru Nina Garcia, the contest gave aspiring designers the chance to put their talent to the test by turning a mundane object into a work of art.

Design Contest: Create a Chic New Birth Control Carrying Case for Yaz and Win $10,000

Who says a birth control case can't be stylish? Project Runway judge and fashion guru Nina Garcia has just launched a fun new contest that gives aspiring designers the chance to put their talent to the test by turning a mundane object into a work of art.

The YAZ: Step Up and Go Beyond Contest is a one-of-a-kind design contest aimed at creating a contemporary and fashionable new carrying case for YAZ® (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol), an oral contraceptive that goes beyond birth control to help manage severe premenstrual symptoms, also known as PMDD, and may help treat moderate acne, both of which can significantly impact a women's life.*

Picture 1.png"The design challenge we're posing is a fashion transformation unlike any other," said Garcia. "We're taking an iconic accessory--the birth control case--and asking aspiring designers to take a shot at redesigning it into a chic, more sophisticated carrying case that they could slip into their purses."

Design submissions will be accepted until June 30, 2008. On behalf of Garcia, Step Up Women's Network, and Bayer HealthCare, one lucky winner will receive a $10,000 prize to invest in his or her career dreams, via enrollment in design classes or for the purchase of special design materials and software. The contest winners will be announced around the time of Fashion Week in fall 2008.

"At Step Up Women's Network, we are dedicated to providing opportunities for advancement, whether that's in their careers, education, or just their everyday lives," said Danielle Carrig, executive director of Step Up Women's Network. "In tandem with our mission, we are pleased to be part of this unique and inspiring contest, which will tap the potential of aspiring designers and spotlight talents that may otherwise have gone unrecognized."
