Q. Where can I find a cheap version of the shorts in this picture?

A. In our recent post offering tips on how to wear short shorts, we featured a picture of a pair of cuffed short shorts from Express. Lucky for you, they are not too expensive, costing $49.50 at Here are some more cuffed, pleated short shorts that you might like, all for under $60:

Q. For the past few years, I have been looking for a spring jacket that I can wear to work and still wear on the weekends. I have yet to see anything that really catches my eye. Can you please offer some insight?

A. I assume you are referring to outerwear and not a blazer or jacket intended to wear as part of your outfit. Your best option for a spring coat to wear to work and on weekends is one of our favorite wardrobe must-haves: the trench coat. Look for one that hits above your knee - it will easily pair with everything from work dresses and suits to casual jeans and cropped pants. We’re loving bright colors and pretty patterns this season, but basic black and khaki are nice options also.

Here are some styles you’ll want to wear 7 days a week:

Q. I’m looking for a lightweight cardigan sweater that can be worn over long sleeves now and over tanks when the weather warms up. I’m looking for quality knitwear, the last cardigan sweater I owned fell apart after a season of wear. Basically I would love it to be grey (my current alternative to black) lightweight, machine washable (I have clothes that sit in a bag for months waiting for the trip to the dry cleaner) and if at all possible no more than $100, but I would pay a little more if it is well made (maybe, possibly made Stateside to support local economy). I’ve looked high and low and need some expertise on where can I find such an item.

A. You got it! Below are some gray cardigans (mostly under $100) that can be worn now and when the weather warms up. We only selected cardigans that can be machine or hand washed (no “dry clean only” options). Thin sweaters, which are your best option, tend to be more delicate, so be sure to hand wash them or use the delicate cycle on your machine; dry them flat to retain the shape - this should prevent them from falling apart after one season of wear.

Q. Once I finally succumbed to the legging phase, I realized I don’t look half bad in black, stretchy, cropped (mid-calf) pants. Unfortunately, leggings AREN’T pants (or at least I can’t wear them that way). So I’d love to find some slim, black, cropped pants that LOOK like leggings, but flatter like pants. I’ve had no luck in my search.

A. We love a challenge! We searched for cropped pants that have the look of leggings but the substance of a pant. Here are our picks:

alloyimage.gifQ. I’m looking for these cute sequin flats from a few seasons ago but can’t seem to find them. Can you help?

A. Unfortunately, these Dollhouse “Twinkle Toes” flats are no longer available. We did find some other cute sequin flats that you may like. (P.S. sequin flats are a fun way to dress up a basic jeans look - wear them day or night.)
