A. Believe it or not, you don’t need to trade your “cute” shoes for winter boots when the weather gets cold and soggy. Weatherproof shoes have come a long way and women no longer need to settle for traditionally unstylish snow boots. Two of our favorite brands are Aquatalia and La Canadienne, each offering a huge variety of weatherproof shoes, ankle boots and tall boots that are so stylish, you’ll want to wear them even when the weather is fair. Though some styles are a little bit expensive, consider it an investment in a shoe you’ll wear for many winters to come. Below are just a few of our favorite styles, most of which are perfect for your casual, on-the-go lifestyle - and some are even on sale!A. Love these boots! You’ll get years of wear from them, and they’ll only improve with age. As for wearing them in the spring, pair them with a flirty dress or skirt and you’ll look gorgeous.

Q. I have winter white, tall, high heel boots. I don’t know what to wear with them.
Q. I would like to know if I can wear white boots in winter. I recently move to South Carolina and people are more strict here about it than in Florida.
A. A little bit retro (think Twiggy’s mod look or Nancy Sinatra’s “Boots Are Made For Walking” look) and definitely statement-making, white boots are not the easiest style to wear, regardless of the time of year. However, if done correctly, this is a look that you can work, even in the winter and yes, even in South Carolina.
You can always go mod and wear a minidress with black or colored tights and your white boots. If you’re looking to work them into your daily wardrobe though, the key to wearing your boots now is to do it in a modern, updated way. Wear them with skinny jeans or black leggings and a cozy sweater for a relaxed, casual look. You can also try wearing them with a slim knee length skirt or dress. Whichever way you wear them, be prepared for fashion traditionalists to make a comment or two, especially in the winter, just wear them with confidence and feel good.

Q. I will soon attend a dressy wedding for which a bought a knee-height black satin dress. Now I’m looking for a pair of proper shoes. One candidate is black suede high heel pumps with tiny gold lines on it, while the other is high heeled black patent. My best choice would have been black satin shoes, however can’t find them in nearby stores. Is it ok to wear suede shoes with a satin dress? And what color hosiery alternatives would you recommend other than black, considering i don’t wanna be “all-black”?
A. Black suede or patent would look lovely with your black satin dress. In fact, the mixture of textures adds richness to your look. Don’t feel boxed in by having to match fabrics and luster.
As for hosiery, a dressy wedding might not be the time to take a risk with a contrasting pair of hosiery when you are wearing black shoes and a black dress. Instead, why not opt for hosiery with a texture or pattern to help avoid the all-black look. A pair with subtle gold shimmer might work also. (see options below) For a holiday party or festive affair, you can have fun with your hosiery color and opt for a rich purple or a silvery gray (though not if your shoes have gold lines in them).
