Q. I see that pale pastels are a big trend for spring. To be honest, it has been years since I wore anything pastel. What colors can I wear them with?

A. True, it has been a long time since pastel hues were truly in style, but judging by the spring runways, it’s a trend you won’t be able to escape this season. Here are some tips for incorporating pastels into your look:

1. Pair pastels with pastels: Colorblocking monochromatic pastels was one of the most prevalent looks on the runways. However, this can be tough to pull off successfully. To avoid looking like a walking Easter egg, try pairing just two pastels together at a time.

2. Pair pastels with soft neutrals:White, khaki, grey, camel, and denim look beautiful worn with pastels.

3. Incorporate black accessories: If pastels are too girly for you, opt for black accessories to toughen them up.

4. Pair pastels with metallics: Silver and gold look gorgeous next to soft pastels.

Q. I keep seeing printed pants everywhere. Is this going to carry through to the spring? How can I wear them without looking like a fashion victim?

A. Printed pants are indeed a big trend right now and will continue to be all the way through spring. On the runways, we saw plenty of printed pants paired with printed tops — and even printed shoes! But the best way to wear them in the real world is to pair them with monochromatic pieces and let the printed pants be the focal point of your look.

Q. I received a brown sleeveless vest cardigan sweater for Christmas from my mother-in-law. I really like it, but I am having trouble figuring out what to wear under it. Please help!

A. There are a number of ways to wear your sweater vest. For underpinnings, look for jersey long sleeve tops and turtlenecks or silk and cotton button downs. If your vest is chunky or oversized like the options below, be sure your underpinning has a slim fit. You can wear your vest loose and open or style it with a skinny or wide belt. Q. I want to purchase the Tape Yarn Pullover (in Ivory) from Anthropologie, but I really don’t know what to wear under it, or how to accessorize it. It has a loose, airy weave so I’m not sure what works! Please help!

A. Your best bet is to wear a white or ivory tank or camisole underneath, thought it’s not the warmest look for winter. You could also experiment with a colored tank, like the neon yellow option below, for a fun look. Another option is to wear it over a button down shirt or blouse so the collar and cuffs peek out.
