Just in time for the holiday season, TOMS launched TOMS Marketplace, a new e-commerce platform that gives social entrepreneurs the chance to sell their products that make a difference. Choose from cozy scarves, printed totes or stylish jewelry - all from companies that focus on making the world a little bit of a better place.

One of the brands available that caught our eye is Half United, an innovative accessories company on a mission to fight world hunger. For every product purchased, Half United gives half the profits to fighting the global hunger crisis. From $32 to $45, their jewelry is affordable and on trend. Here are some of our picks:

31-bits-thumb.jpgThis holiday season, make your gift purchase count. An item that gives back to a greater good will have so much more meaning - to you AND the recipient!

One of the brands we’re loving for all the stylish women on our shopping list this year is 31 Bits. The company was started by a group of college girls five years ago, after one of them took a life-changing trip to Uganda and came back with a box of gorgeous jewelry made by the local women. These women had grown up in a war-torn area with no opportunities for education or jobs, but they were skilled at making beautiful pieces. The girls quickly realized that this was stuff someone would want to buy, so they went to Uganda to meet with the women and eventually launched 31 Bits.

What began as a small company selling at craft fairs and home parties is now available in over 300 stores and online at 31bits.com. 31 Bits has since implemented a holistic development program in Uganda, where women spend five years receiving health education, finance training, counseling and business training. Your purchase of these pieces (that we’d buy anyways, to be honest!) helps support and empower these women in Uganda to rise above poverty.
