Australian designer Katie Gannon of Mother Maria is inspired by her love of vintage clothing, which she has shopped for since she was a teenager. In 2002, Gannon launched her own collection, featuring vintage fabrics, retro prints, and bold colors that make Mother Maria distinctive. Gannon also ensures that all of her garments are produced under ethical working conditions using environmentally sustainable fabrics, such as organic cotton. Walking into the JoJo Loves You jewelry studio in Boston's South End is like entering a fantasy land: everything is pink, shiny, and very sparkly. Behind all the glitter is designer Josie Hewitt, who launched the line after finishing college in 2002. She began selling jewelry to her friends and family, and eventually two local stores. The collection is now sold in more than 100 boutiques, and JoJo's colorful Swarovski crystal "Blings" (pictured, $30) have garnered their own cult following.
