We all know how important our girlfriends are. No matter how busy life gets with work, family, school or whatever, it’s our girlfriends that keep us grounded, recharged and ready to face our daily trials and tribulations. Our favorite way to connect with friends? A girls night out, of course — or rather “in” in this case.

On a chilly fall Friday recently, I invited a few of my favorite girlfriends over for cocktails and treats. The theme of the night was sweets, complete with chocolate fondue and a cocktail bar. Inspired by the event I attended a few weeks ago at DreamDry, I set up my very own “style your cocktail” bar. Starting with Baileys Vanilla Cinnamon, we accessorized our cocktails with a variety of nibbles including fresh fruit, edible gold flakes and colorful sugar. Cheers!

After a savory meal of edamame, Japanese salad and sushi, we finished the night with chocolate fondue (and more Baileys Vanilla Cinnamon, of course!). A variety of nibbles including pretzels, marshmallows, brownie bites, strawberries and pound cake were dipped into delicious melted chocolate for a sweet finish to our girls night out — er, in!

Check out more photos from the night on Instagram.

An invitation for blow-outs, makeup and cocktails at Rachel Zoe’s DreamDry in NYC? It took us exactly two seconds to say yes to this Glam girls night out event!

Upon entering the chic salon (would you expect anything less from Zoe?) last night, we were greeted with a “Style Your Shot” bar, courtesy of Baileys Vanilla Cinnamon. Filled with an assortment of toppings to complement the sweet spicy drink, we created our own little cocktails with a variety of fruit, candies and more (yum).

We were then whisked off to our first beauty treatments. Mine was makeup application where I opted for a smoky eye. While Meredith applied my makeup, a manicurist applied an accent nail to each hand with shimmery rose polish and sparkly sticker tips.

While I was having makeup done, Beth was getting her blow-out. Steve gave her some gorgeous loose waves — the kind you can never seem to do at home yourself. After sipping on some more cocktails and enjoying some delicious passed hors d’ouevres, we traded places and I had my hair blown out by Steve while Beth had her makeup done by Meredith. Check out the results!

We couldn’t let our gorgeous looks go to waste, so we headed out after the event for a drink. What is there to say? It was the perfect girls night out from start to finish!

Last week, we were treated to a drink and food pairings party at the gorgeous Mondrian SoHo Hotel in New York City, courtesy of Stella Artois Cidre. This European-style cider is made from hand-picked apples for a crisp, light and refreshing drink that’s the perfect alternative to prosecco and sauvignon blanc. It’s naturally gluten-free, so it’s a great choice for anyone on restricted gluten diets.

Stella Artois Cidre is best enjoyed in a white wine glass and pairs especially well with cheeses like asiago, blue and manchego. Other foods served at the party included sliders (mini hamburgers), bite sized lobster rolls and pulled pork. Belgian endive and Waldorf salad also make excellent pairings.

We really enjoyed the eventing which included live music, delicious food and several refills of Cidre (yum!).

In today’s “always on” culture, it’s more difficult than ever to juggle the demands of work and the rest of your life, which includes family, friends and “me” time. For me, it’s a constant struggle to find the time to fit everything in without some things suffering. Here are some tips I strive to live by for a better work/life balance:

1. Keep a schedule. During the work week, I have a basic schedule that I try to stick to. Blocks of time are allotted to work, exercise, family and friends, and down time. I try my hardest to manage my time well and to not let work seep into time set aside for other things.

2. Stay organized. Using my time efficiently, especially at work, is essential to being able to stick to my schedule. I’ve been relying on Evernote a lot lately to keep my personal life and work life organized. It’s a free app that works across several platforms including my desktop, iPhone and iPad which allows me to synch lists, notes and more.

3. Power down. I’ll admit, I’m a bit of an iPad and iPhone addict and I’m rarely far from either device. However, it’s important to disconnect for a little while each day. In the evenings, especially during family time, I make sure I’m not disturbed by text messages, emails or social media.

4. Don’t multi-task the important stuff. Women are famed for being good multi-taskers, but sometimes multi-tasking can be counter-productive. Doing two things at once makes it difficult to do both to the best of your ability. When you’re working, focus on the task at hand and you’ll be much more efficient. When you’re spending time with family or friends, give them your full focus and it will be much more rewarding. During “me” time, checking your email obsessively keeps you from being relaxed and stress-free.

5. Have a support network. Women are especially guilty of feeling as if we need to do it all, yet doing it all pretty much guarantees that something will suffer — typically our personal lives. Don’t be afraid to delegate time-sucking responsibilities. Buy your groceries online, hire a cleaning service, delegate responsibilities at work…whatever it takes to lighten your load a bit.

6. Take a vacation. All those vacation days you have racked up? Use them. Recharging your battery is essential for work/life balance. Whether it’s a relaxing staycation or an extravagant holiday, unplug from work and enjoy.

In today’s high-stress world, we all need to find a way to let off a little steam. Whether it be via an adventurous vacation, a night out with the girls or hot yoga on the weekends, finding a little time to decompress helps to keep a person sane and ready to face another day. How you choose to unwind is a very personal decision since not everything works for everyone.

Over the years, I’ve experimented with a variety of ways to unwind, everything from exercise to crossword puzzles to kniting, but there’s nothing that turns my active, stressed-out brain to the “off” position like my true guilty pleasure: trashy novels. At the end of a long day, it’s like a rich dessert for my soul: no nutritional value but sinfully delicious.

It all started with the Twilight series and last year’s New York Times best-selling guilty pleasure, Fifty Shades of Grey. Until then, I thought all books had to be meaningful and Oprah-worthy. Suddenly, I was discovering the joy of reading novels that didn’t require any deep thinking or intellectual investment and enjoying the temporary mental vacation they gave me.

I soon went down the rabbit hole of guilty pleasure reading, filling my Kindle with titles that sound too ridiculous and embarrassing to say out loud — and enjoying them thoroughly. Do I feel guilty reading such escapist trash? Maybe just the teensiest bit. Sure, I could use that hour or two an evening to catch up on world events, learn a new skill, get some exercise or organize my closet, but the relaxation and “time out” it provides me is far more beneficial to my well-being than any of those things. Don’t judge!

ABC_Logo_Butterscotch_S_CMYK.jpg Four friends. Four hearts. 13 weeks of seduction. Based on the hit UK television series of the same name, “Mistresses” is a provocative and thrilling drama about the scandalous lives of a sexy and sassy group of four girlfriends, each on her own path to self-discovery. These four friends find support and guidance with each other as they brave their turbulent journeys and life’s storms of excitement, secrecy and betrayal, all the while bound by the complex relationships they’ve created. “Mistresses” stars Alyssa Milano, Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes and Jes Macallan. Don’t miss the series premiere Monday, June 3rd at 10|9c on ABC after an all-new “The Bachelorette.”
