You may not be entirely familiar with teenagers Rachel Flatt and Mirai Nagasu, however over the next two weeks you will hear a lot about them as they attempt to win gold in ladies figure skating at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. They have big shoes to fill when you think back to Olympic champions like Sarah Hughes, Tara Lipinski, Kristi Yamaguchi and Dorothy Hamill.
But watching figure skating for me is much like watching the red carpet arrivals at award shows, for I am utterly curious about what they will wear. An international audience is tuning in, millions of eyes are upon them, will they follow in Nancy Kerrigan's and Michelle Kwan's footsteps and wear designer couture a la Vera Wang or something more traditional with sequins and handkerchiefs (yuck!)?
In the spirit of these talented ice princesses, the fashions below were a challenge I gave myself to see if I could translate the skaters' fluffy, sparkly couture into modern day styles we would conceivably "sport" out on the town!
