New York Fashion Week started only yesterday, and already there are some clear trends for Fall 2011 emerging. Layered looks, long skirts (including some worn over pants), off-the-shoulder tops, and wideleg pants all made appearances at a variety of shows. Here are highlights from some of the best shows of the day:
BCBG designers Max and Lubov Azria can always be counted on to deliver a lively atmosphere in a room packed with celebrities (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Taraji P. Henson, Maggie Rizer, Kelly Rowland, Garcelle Beauvais, Katrina Bowden, and Ashanti were in attendance). Many of the runway looks were long and layered, with turtlenecks in contrasting colors worn under a number of looks, including some of the floor sweeping dresses. Lightweight fabrics combined with demure slits and flouncy skirt and dress silhouettes made for a number of feminine, effortless looks.
Vena Cava stayed true to their vintage, boho-inspired aesthetic with a collection that was full of breezy silhouettes, long skirts, and plenty of prints. The metal-worked jewelry by Dannijo and dainty black berets worn by many of the models were perfect for adding structure to many of the looks, which were often free-flowing and casual.
Richard Chai Love
Richard Chai Love presented plenty of contemporary wardrobe staples in a dark palette of grey, blue, green, and black. While there were no real surprises when it came to the relaxed, slouchy aesthetic of Chai's collection, there was an unexpected off-the-shoulder ruffled top and maxi dress worn by a platinum blonde model with a jolt of hot pink dye in her hair.
