Bras can be your secret weapon - or your worst enemy - especially when it comes to summer's barest tops and dresses. Want to avoid some of the top bra mishaps? We consulted French lingerie company, Simone Pérèle, for tips on avoiding many of summer's biggest bra mistakes.
1. White under white.
When it comes to bras, two whites don't make a right. Though it might seem counterintuitive at first, don't wear a white bra under a white t-shirt or tank. Always go for nude. We love Simone Pérèle's Romance Push-Up in nude, which has a racerback option (another summer bra must-have) and is available up to size E.
2. Falling strapless bras.
We're so tired of hoisting up a strapless bra every 15 minutes. Before swearing them off altogether, look for strapless bras with silicone grips everywhere they can go, and firm, all-day support. The Today Show recently hailed Simone Pérèle's Velia Strapless as a summer must-have and we agree.
3. The double bubble.
Perhaps one of the worst bra faux pas one can commit, the double bubble occurs when your bra is too small...and the cup runneth over. This one is a simple fix: get a proper bra fitting. We recommend getting a professional fitting at your favorite department store or small lingerie boutiques at least once a year.
4. Dirty straps.
One of the biggest bra faux pas offenses is when that hint of a bra strap peeping through your tank is in anything less than perfect condition. Frayed straps, white straps gone grey or dingy nude straps are an absolute bra no-no. If you're going to show a little strap, make sure it's in mint condition.
5. Sagging Sally.
Not looking as perky as you'd like under your summer tanks and t-shirts? There's a good chance your band size is too large. If you're a 36, try going down to a 34. Your bra band should fit snuggly and firmly with no gaps in your cleavage center. This one step can give your entire bust a boost - something we all can use!
