What's In My Weekend Bag: Weekend Antiquing In The Country

By Daisy Lewellyn

Going antiquing unveils so many treasures and trinkets. There are tons of hidden pockets of style in small towns not always deemed as the "it" spot. But who gives a hoot, these are the best places to go for antique and vintage hunting. I have to make sure to pack light so that I will have room to pile in all of my new finds.

My tips for packing for a quick weekend getaway:

  • When in doubt, go Effortless Chic. Pack pieces that are super stylish, but really comfy and easy to throw on in minutes.
  • Pack pieces that go from day to night to day again.
  • Pack seperates that can mix and match with each other.
  • Carry along a tote that serves as a mini travel bag/purse for the weekend.

Here's an idea of what I would pack for a weekend of searching for shabby chic finds for the home, and summer vintage frocks for the city.

The bag: I am bringing Elle Woods along antiquing with this adorable carry-on from pbteen.com. I love the pink print, just as adorable as my cute pieces to pack inside the bag.

Day 1: The Saturday Search Look

I like to pack pieces that I can wear from day to night to day, yes the whole weekend. I just despise packing tons of stuff, and doing a lot of changing. I would rather just make use of my pieces that I have, especially for a short weekend getaway.

This fun floral skirt combo with an updated simple t-shirt is great. The ruffles on the sleeve give it a special feel, with the comfort of a t-shirt. Throw on a belt, reminding me of an antique armoire! My retro Levi's jean jacket pays tribute to my obsession with the '50s and the beautiful party dresses that I am on the hunt for. The jewelry, pretty and romantic. Love these orange flats that will be my travelling buddies for the entire weekend! I never go anywhere without my oversized shades, and I just love the idea of antiquing with a novelty kitschy canvas bag for the vintage adventures. Not very serious, and plenty of room to load in my finds!

I am tossing my Blackberry and going retro with these great little notebooks, perfect for jotting down all of my fave secret places to shop.

Early Evening/Day 1: Charming Quaint Dinner

After an eventful day of shabby chic scouring, it's time for a little din din. Every town with great vintage shops will always have little cafes that make you feel like you are on the set of a romantic film set in the south. Although I am eager to wear my new dresses that I found early on in the day, they will have to wait for their grand debut until after the Woolite treatment. So, this airy flowy dress from Sienna Miller's collection will suit me just fine. I love this dress because it's lightweight and comfy, and ideal for an early dinner. I am keeping on my flats, and my jewelry too! This casual dinner does not call for a reservation, or my stacked platforms or pumps - I left those in the city to rest.

Evening/ Day 1: Sleep Pretty

I am calling it an early night in order to rise early to get my hands on the best deal at tomorrow's antique flea market. Being the romantic that I am, I am a sucker for sleeping in nightgowns, vintage slips, and lace. This buttercream dream is the perfect combination of all, and at $16, it's a steal! My feet are always cold, and I just don't get along too well with bare feet on floors, so I brought a little bit of LA to my trip with Uggs, only they are slippers...in metallic silver!!! Who knew?! I feel like a Magnolia lemon cupcake with silver sprinkles on top. Sweet buttercream dreams!

Day 2: Shabby Chic Sunday

I really love to blend home and fashion trends, so much so that I decided to wear a vintage wallpaper printed skirt! This skirt is super chic, and the perfect piece that I can wear anytime of the day or night, and really dress it up or way down. My classic white shirt came along, and I am feeling very relaxed. Wearing it half buttoned, and tied with a slipknot, that falls just at the waistband, I will pop my collar, and even roll up my sleeves if the antiquing goes well! What about my accessories and jewelry, you ask? Well, I try to be a woman of my word, so I am carrying the same pieces over from last night. These are what I call versatile, baby! Black and white is always a great color combo for the summer, especially when you pop it with a bright orange hue in your shoes.

The Beauty Closet

Although I am a lover of pretty things in my closet, I also have a special place in my heart for the beauty closet. I just love makeup, products, and all of that fun girly stuff. I have scaled down my list of what I love to use from my beauty closet. Sometimes I like to bring so much along, I practically have to pack an additional bag!

Avene- One of my favorite steps in my beauty routine is exfoliating. Oh wow, there is something amazing about rubbing the scrub on and walking out of the house with an angelic glow! Just divine. Avene is an amazing brand and makes such a gentle scrub, that I am able to use it about 4 times a week.

Shick- This Schick shaver is a bonus like no other. Instead of packing my shave gel and razor, I just reach for this all-in-one tool. And it's pink, which makes me smile.

Rimmel- My nickname should be "Golden Girl" because I just love being bronzed. It's such a simple beauty trick to look like you just arrived from hanging out with Michael Kors in St. Tropez, any time of the year! A few swipes of this Rimmel and I am good to go.

Smashbox- I can't forget my Smashbox lipgloss, which I adore for more reasons than one. The beautiful sheer pink hue is packed with vitamins E, C, & A, and even has SPF. Such a lovely healthy way to sport my smile after shopping!

Although I don't wear jeans often, I am wearing this waterproof Tarte mascara packed in a great dark denim package.

Shoppers have to stay super fresh and smell good, especially when reaching over person after person for the best find. I love my Weleda citrus deodorant, it feels like a designer deodorant! A citrus squeeze never felt so sweet, and the mini travel size is perfect for a weekend away.
