Readers' Choice Editors' Choice
Lucy's Sister Gigi Favela

designer: Marissa Spada of Lucy's Sister

design aesthetic: Buckles and belts that are funky, fun, irreverent. Tongue-in-cheek attitude required.

standout pieces: The hand enameled Maine Buckle paired with the Anchor and Stars Hippy Strap and  the "Prep for Peace" belt that pairs a hand enameled Sienna Buckle with the handpainted  Hearts Hippy Strap. Marissa is especially excited about the new bronze castings of the buckles. They are hand cast in sand with the sand impressions still visible in the finished product. They are rustic and beautiful, real works of art.

inspired by: Marissa is inspired by her childhood in the 1970's, preppy, nautical New England summers as well as the unique style of  Carly Simon, Ali McGraw,  Marisa Berenson, Jane Birkin, and Anita Pallenberg. They each had a laid back, almost hippie aesthetic , but they also knew quality, and enjoyed the finer things. They never looked like they tried too hard. They experimented with their sartorial choices, but had a traditional core.

what sets them apart: Lucy's Sister belt buckles and straps are completely interchangeable. The buckles look different depending upon the strap that they are attached to and vice versa. Buckles can also be engraved and the belt straps can be hand stamped with one's name.

celebrity fans: Many celebrities have received personalized belts including Fergie, Jojo, Rhianna, Katherine McPhee and Hilary Duff. Other fans include Chris Daughtry, Omiron and Gym Class Heroes.

designer: Monica Favela George of Gigi Favela

design aesthetic: Gigi Favela designs are clean, witty, and pay homage to classic proportions. They are American-sportswear oriented, even though they’re mostly heels (flats arriving '08). The sex appeal involved is not overt, and the woman who wears Gigi Favela shoes is going to feel very attractive in them. Monica's goal is for Gigi Favela to be the thinking fashionista’s  go-to shoe. The woman she designs for and is inspired by is a positive female, moving forward, sporting fabulous and wearable shoes all the while.

standout pieces: The Krystal in electric blue pony, the Courtney in cognac and The Fallon in black/white.

inspired by: The architectural and sculptural aspects of the heel, fashion pop-culture icons and the possibilities that the materials offer. Monica attends the leather fair in Bologna, Italy to source her materials, and it’s an intoxicating sensorial overload from all the different colors and textures. Using the perfect materials is essential and Monica loves to mix it up. Particular inspirations: Parker Posey in Party Girl,  the Barbarella space-camp vibe and Action Jackson heroes such as Wonder Woman and Alias’ Sydney Bristow. Monica loves a butt-kicking woman -- who should be wearing a pair of Gigis.

what sets them apart: Gigi Favela is dedicated to making the shoes as wearable as possible while still being a fashion brand. The looks are the most important appeal, but they are made to be as comfortable as possible using 3mm of Poron dual layer (anti-shock/comfort) padding and walkable heel heights. Monica is also dedicated to using fair labor with everything 100% made in Italy.
